Recognizing & Honoring Veteran's Day

Veterans Day 2023
November 10, 2023

Happy Veteran's Day!

For years, NEF has worked to support Veterans through our “Bring Them Homes” initiative, which provides Veterans of the U.S. military with high-quality affordable housing. Over the past decade, NEF has invested more than $1 Billion in 84 projects that provide a Veterans preference, alongside over $9 million of grant funding to assist with pre-development and system change work to expedite projects, resulting in nearly 13,000 units of affordable housing, including 7,500 units targeting Veterans and Veteran families.

Additionally, with the help of our incredible partner David Cleghorn at HELP Development Corp. and HELP USA, NEF was able to play a role in the financing and development of several communities that uplift our nation’s heroes, including the two below.

Named after a Philly native who died in the Vietnam War, The Lural Lee Blevins Veteran Center at HELP Philadelphia V is a historic renovation that houses 37 seniors, including formerly homeless Veterans. This adaptive reuse of a former public school includes wrap-around supportive services provided by Public Health Management Corp that give Veterans and seniors the ability to age in place.

Named in honor of the first Black female brigadier general in the U.S. Army, The Brigadier General Hazel Johnson-Brown Veterans Center at HELP Philadelphia VI is another former public school that has been rehabilitated to offer 55 affordable homes for seniors and homeless Veterans in Philly. Accessibility for low-income Veterans, seniors and individuals with special needs is key to the success of this development through on-site supportive and medical services. This development was also a finalist in 2022’s AHF Readers’ Choice Awards in the Historic Rehab category.

NEF is proud to work on such important and impactful developments with David and team that help uplift and commemorate heroic figures in our nation’s history.

Thank you to all of our Veterans for your service to our country!
