A few weeks ago, our partners at Ten North Group celebrated the grand reopening of Ernie Martin Villas in Miami, FL. Formerly known as Villas Del Lago, the new name honors the legacy of Dr. Ernest Martin whose leadership as the executive director of Housing and Community Development and a community activist in the 1980s advanced housing access for disinvested communities in Miami-Dade County.
Following a resyndication of close to $100 million and a $47 million comprehensive rehabilitation, the 288-unit affordable housing community has been fully restored and residents have returned to their renovated homes. Ernie Martin Villas serves individuals and families earning at or below 60% of the area median income.
This development is part of NEF's AHEAD initiative, which was established in order to build the financial capacity and experience of non-traditional developers to help them overcome today’s high barriers of entry in accessing LIHTC to create new affordable housing.
