On September 30, NEF syndicated development Harrison Circle had its ribbon cutting ceremony. Located in Kalamazoo’s River’s Edge District, the property was co-developed by NoMi Developers, LLC (NoMi) – a local Kalamazoo-based developer who has completed four projects in the district – and PS Equities, Inc. (PSE) who have over 30 years’ experience developing affordable housing using LIHTCs in Michigan.

The new construction development is located on two adjacent land parcels. A five-story elevatored building consisting of four residential floors and a first floor that contains common areas and approximately 5,000 square feet of commercial space was built on the south lot. The north site is a surface parking lot with pedestrian routes that connect the pre-existing walk paths to both parcels. The property includes 80 family homes comprised of 76 one- and four two-bedroom apartments, with a mix of 30-80 percent AMI residences as well as 16 market-rate units. Located in downtown Kalamazoo, the development offers close access to urban amenities within a few blocks. Residents will have access to banking, grocery, pharmacy, medical services, restaurants and other retail establishments. Additionally, Harrison Circle has immediate access to the K-Metro public bus system.

Co-developer PSE has over 30 years of experience in the housing industry and has developed more than 40 projects (2,300+ units) across Michigan. Formed in 2014, NoMi is focused on developing a community in the Rivers Edge District, as evidenced by the portfolio of properties in operation, and brings depth of local knowledge and market conditions to the table. The partnership between local expertise and industry veterans created a lattice of overlapping knowledge that brought about the successful creation of Harrison Circle. Such collaboration is a cornerstone of our industry, and we are proud to have been able to help both developers achieve their mission. We hope to continue to work with them to bring quality affordable housing to the people of Kalamazoo and the rest of Michigan.
