First Co-Located Affordable Housing & Public Library Opens in Brooklyn

2023 11 Sunsetpark Re Opening 49
December 08, 2023

Our partners at Fifth Avenue Committee and Brooklyn Public Library recently cut the ribbon on the historic Sunset Park Library and Apartments in Brooklyn. This new development model brings affordable housing and public library facilities together and sets a new precedent for co-located housing in New York City.

Sunset Park Library and Apartments is also the first new affordable housing for families in the community in 20 years, and its 49 units are all affordable for residents earning 30-80 percent of the area median income. Nine units are reserved for formerly homeless residents and eight units have Section 8 subsidies. The state-of-the-art library has a large space for teens, a recording studio, community program room, and two grand murals at the entrance.
