On to our second of three award winning developments: The Ruth Ellis Clairmount Center in Detroit! This affordable housing and permanent supportive housing development was awarded the 2023 Charles L. Edson Award Winner in the Housing for Special Populations category by the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition.

Our partners at Full Circle Communities, Inc (FCC) and the Ruth Ellis Center (REC) worked diligently to complete this 43-unit mixed used development that caters to LGBTQ+ youth and youth at risk of homelessness, living with disabilities or with very low incomes. While the center's focus and supportive services are tailored to LGBTQ+ youth, no one is turned away if they need a home.

This development addresses the somber reality that 40 percent of all young people experiencing homelessness are members of the LGBTQ+ community. Now, LGBTQ+ youth have access not only to permanent supportive housing, but a community health & wellness center, career training and more necessities that help address barriers that LGBTQ+ youth face in accessing housing and vital services.

Named after the trailblazing Ruth Ellis, a Detroit citizen who offered shelter and support to the city’s LGBTQ+ population in the 1930s, this incredible development speaks to the power of collaboration and an unyielding dedication to supporting a vulnerable population.

Thank you to Senator Debbie Stabenow and to Congressman Shri Thanedar for presenting this prestigious award to our partners!
