First Mass Timber Affordable Housing Project in Denver will Offer 170 Family Homes & Public Library on Ground Floor

4965 Washington St
January 26, 2026

4965 Washington Street will be the first affordable housing development in Colorado -- and one of the few in the country -- to use prefabricated cross-laminated timber (CLT) as a major design component, which will put the "new Main Street" of Denver's Globeville neighborhood on the map. Recently closed, the development represents a significant and unique investment, which will also offer:

  • 170 high quality, affordable housing units for families

  • A new Denver Public Library branch on the ground floor

  • Community-owned commercial space

Earlier this month, local officials including the mayor, developer Evergreen Real Estate Group and co-sponsors Rocky Mountain Communities and GES Coalition gathered to celebrate the closing and the start of construction on 4965 Washington Street. Congratulations to our partners on reaching a major milestone on this truly innovative, community-driven development!
